How to determine the wear resistance and comfort of fabrics?
Observing through intuitive tactile sensation
Simple practical testing
Labeling based on the composition of the fabric
Methods for determining wear resistance
Look at the fabric composition!
The wear resistance of synthetic fibers is usually better than that of natural fibers:
Fibers with good wear resistance: Synthetic fibers such as nylon, polyester, and spandex have excellent wear resistance. The higher the proportion of these components, the stronger the wear resistance of the fabric. Fibers with average wear resistance: natural fibers such as cotton, linen, wool, and silk have relatively weak wear resistance.

Observe the weaving and appearance of the fabric
The tighter the weaving method, the stronger the wear resistance of the fabric. For example, the same cotton fabric, plain weave canvas, has much better wear resistance than sparse gauze. Fabrics with dense textures on the surface or treated with wear-resistant coatings, such as the twill weave of denim and the thickening treatment of workwear fabrics, will have stronger wear resistance.

Simple practical testing
You can use your nails to gently scratch the inconspicuous parts of the fabric a few times, or rub the edges and corners of the fabric against each other. If after scraping and rubbing, the fabric does not pill, fuzz, or show obvious marks, it indicates good wear resistance; If pilling and snagging occur quickly, the wear resistance is relatively poor.

Methods for assessing comfort level
Skin friendly
Gently rub the surface of the fabric with the back of your hand or cheek. If the touch is soft and there is no itching sensation, it indicates good skin affinity; If the touch is rough, has a prickly texture, and has poor skin affinity.
Softness and elasticity
Grasp the fabric with your hand and then release it. The fabric can quickly rebound without obvious stiffness, and the sense of restraint when worn will be relatively weak; If it becomes hard and rebounds slowly after gripping, the comfort of wearing it will be affected.
Pay attention to details related to breathability and moisture absorption
You can gently exhale into the fabric. If you can quickly feel the heat coming out from the opposite side, it indicates good breathability; You can also drop a drop of water on the surface of the fabric. If the water can be quickly absorbed by the fabric, it indicates good moisture absorption. This type of fabric is less prone to sweating when worn.

Check the composition of the fabric
Cotton, linen, wool, silk, modal, and Tencel fibers have good moisture absorption and breathability, providing high comfort when worn; If it is a pure nylon or polyester fabric, the comfort level will be relatively weak, but if it is a fabric blended with natural fibers, the comfort level will be improved.
