Many people often cannot distinguish between Lycra and Modal fabrics when choosing clothes. Both are high-quality fabrics commonly used in clothing, emphasizing comfort and skin friendliness, but their material properties, core advantages, and applicable scenarios are completely different. Simply put, Lycra focuses on elastic shaping, while Modal focuses on softness and breathability. Understanding the difference between the two allows for precise selection of close fitting clothing and sportswear

Lycra belongs to synthetic elastic fibers
The biggest feature is super strong elasticity

The stretching degree can reach 500%, and after stretching, it can rebound and recover 100% without deformation or relaxation. Lycra is rarely woven separately and is usually added in small quantities to fabrics such as cotton, polyester, nylon, etc., suitable for various types of clothing. The clothing with Lycra added fits the skin well, has a weak sense of restraint, is wear-resistant and durable, and has excellent shape retention. It will not loosen or wrinkle after long-term wear, and comes with a unique triangular tag as its quality label.

Modal is a natural regenerated cellulose fiber

Made from beech wood pulp, it is a skin friendly natural fabric with the core advantage of extremely soft and smooth touch, excellent drape, lightweight and delicate fabric, moisture absorption and breathability far exceeding pure cotton. It is refreshing to wear without stuffiness. The Modal has a soft and sticky feel, bright color, and is not easy to harden or fade after multiple washes

Difference between Laika and Modal

In terms of elasticity, Lycra has high elasticity and rebound, shaping and wrinkle resistance, while Modal has no elasticity and is easy to relax. Modal is soft and skin friendly, and Lycra fabric is even and fits the body. Lycra focuses on shaping and abrasion resistance, while Modal focuses on breathable and skin friendly scenes. Lycra is mostly used in sportswear, jeans, underwear, and swimsuits, while Modal is more suitable for home wear, pajamas, and close fitting underwear.
